From Prototype to Pre-Order: Inside PAHI’s Hardware Development Journey
Every founder story likes to compress time: a weekend idea, a sleepless sprint, a launch day. PAHI’s story doesn’t work like that. PAHI hardware development took more than 38 months from the first concept to a working MVP, and we think the honest version of those months is more useful than a highlight reel.
How It Started: One Collar, a Lot of Questions
The idea was simple and a little stubborn. A smart collar shouldn’t just tell you where your pet is. It should help you understand how they are, and it should work for dogs, cats and beyond, not just one species. Writing that sentence took a minute. Turning it into something a real animal can wear every day took years.
PAHI Hardware Development: Why It Took 38+ Months
Software can ship on a Friday. Hardware has to survive a dog. That gap is where most of our 38 months went, and it came down to three things.
We built one connected system, not a feature list. GPS, the Pet’s Eye camera, Dotty AI and the app were designed to work together from the start, because a location ping means little without health context, and an alert means little if you can’t see what’s happening. Designing layers that hand off to each other is slower than bolting features on. It’s also the only way we found to make them useful. You can see how the pieces fit on our ecosystem page.
We built for real animals, not demo videos. A collar has to be comfortable, safe and tough enough for daily life with pets who run, swim, scratch and chew. That meant building, testing, breaking and rebuilding, many times, with dogs of different sizes and temperaments. Our Experience PAHI page shows where those lessons ended up.
We built with veterinarians, not around them. Health insight is only as good as the clinical thinking behind it. Dotty AI’s approach is to learn what is normal for each individual pet, and its rules are shaped alongside veterinary experts. The science behind it is the part we are proudest of, and the part that most needed patient, careful validation.
What 38 Months Taught Us
- Start from the pet, not the spec sheet. Every decision got easier once we asked what a pet would actually put up with.
- Design the system, not the feature. The value is in how the layers work together.
- Test early and on real animals. Lab success and real-world success are different things.
- Let veterinarians set the rules. Good data needs good medicine behind it.
Beyond the Collar
The collar is where PAHI starts, not where it ends. We are building toward a fuller care ecosystem around it: veterinary consultations, a complete life-timeline of your pet’s health records, and services that respond to what your pet’s data actually shows, rather than a generic shop. It is a big vision, and the MVP is the foundation it sits on.
A Huge Round of Applause for Our Mentors and Advisors
A project like this does not get through 38 months on founders alone, and we want to say it loudly.
Rana Ganguly, pioneering veterinary clinic owner, gave us operational guidance and the real-world grounding that kept our ideas honest about what animals and clinics actually need. Dr. Saurav Banerjee, a highly respected veterinary doctor, guided the medical parameters and validation rules that turn raw readings into something meaningful. To them, and to the veterinary advisors who shaped our thinking along the way: thank you for your time, your patience and your belief in us. PAHI is better, safer and smarter because of you.
A thank-you also goes to every pet parent and every dog who helped us test early versions. You taught us more than any spec sheet could.
Hardware Is Never Done, But This Is a Real Milestone
We’re not pretending hardware is “done.” It never really is. There is more testing ahead, more feedback to absorb, and more to improve. But the MVP we are sharing now has been through the process that matters: tested, broken a few times on purpose, rebuilt, and tested again until it earned its place on a leash.
That is what 38 months looks like when you refuse to cut corners on something that goes on a living, breathing family member. Every redesign, every failed test and every late-night debate is part of the collar. We think your pet deserves nothing less than something that went through all of that.
If you want to follow the journey or be among the first to try PAHI, you can reserve yours here. Because they’re not just pets. They’re family.
